These requirements cover the installation of lightning-protection components on all types of structures with the exception of those structures used for the production, handling, or storage of ammunition, explosives, flammable liquids or gases, and explosive ingredients. Electrical transmission lines and equipment are not within the scope of this standard.
These requirements apply to lightning protection systems that are complete and cover all parts of a structure. Partial systems are not covered by this standard.
These requirements do not cover lightning-protection components, which are covered by the Standard for Lightning Protection Components, UL 96.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
