This new edition of ANSI/UL 312 is a periodic re-issuance to ensure that UL’s Standards remain up-to-date with regard to format and editorial issues such as renumbering, repagination, correction of editorial errors, correction of cross-references, and updated titles of referenced Standards. No changes in requirements have been made.
These requirements cover check valves of 1-inch nominal size and larger, used in piping systems supplying water for fire protection service.
The check valves covered by these requirements are intended for installation and use in accordance with the Standards for:
- Low Expansion Foam and Combined Agent Systems, NFPA 11;
- Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13;
- Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems, NFPA 14;
- Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire Protection, NFPA 15;
- Deluge Foam-Water Sprinkler and Spray Systems, NFPA 16;
- Installation of Centrifugal Fire Pumps, NFPA 20;
- Water Tanks for Private Fire Protection, NFPA 22; and
- Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances, NFPA 24.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
