In the past, many medium NEMA three-phase motors were rated as 208-230/460 V or 230/460 V, often in the latter case with an additional nameplate marking of . The purpose of this paper is to explain the difference between the two ratings “Useable at 200 V” or “Useable at 208 V” and why the latter will no longer include the nameplate marking “Useable at ___ V” based on U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) motor efficiency compliance after the Test Rule update effective April 2023.
