The newly formed ACI Technical Committee 446 has compiled this review of the study of Fracture Mechanics and its application to concrete structures. Recent advances in concrete fracture mechanics involving fracture characterization, fracture resistance measurements, sophisticated numerical/computational tools and material intrinsic toughness development have brought about certain consensus among researchers that fracture mechanics could help in improving concrete structural performance. This Volume attempts to bring research results to bear on practical concerns related to the safety and economy of concrete structural design. Prepared with your needs in mind, this important ACI Special Publication is divided into two sections. The first section is on application of fracture mechanics to cementitious materials, and the second is on application of fracture mechanics to concrete structures.
