CSA Preface
This is the first edition of CSA C22.2 No. 61643-21, Low voltage surge protective devices – Part 21: Surge protective devices connected to telecommunications and signaling networks – Performance requirements and testing methods, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 61643-21 (edition 1:2000 consolidated with Amendment 1:2008 and Amendment 2:2012). It replaces CSA C22.2 No. 226-92, Protectors in telecommunication networks. It is one in a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as “CSA C22.2 No. 61643-21” throughout.
This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope This International Standard is applicable to devices for surge protection of telecommunications and signalling networks against indirect and direct effects of lightning or other transient overvoltages. The purpose of these SPDs is to protect modern electronic equipment connected to telecommunications and signalling networks with nominal system voltages up to 1 000 V (r.m.s.) a.c. and 1 500 V d.c.
