1. Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to laboratory equipment intended to be connected to supply circuits with nominal system voltages of 750 V and less, for use indoors in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
1.2
This Standard applies to equipment in which protection from electrical shock due to failure of functional insulation is provided either by grounding or a double insulation construction.
1.3
This Standard applies to electrically operated laboratory equipment of a kind that may be operated by personnel skilled in its use but not aware of what electrical hazards might exist. In some cases, this equipment may be accessible to the public.
Note: While persons working in many “”laboratory”” situations are considered to be qualified persons in the sense that they have been trained to carry out specific repetitive procedures involv ing the use of electrical equipment, it is assumed in this Standard that the scope of the training does not warrant the use of equipment that presents a shock hazard from exposed live parts.
1.4
This Standard does not apply to electromedical equipment within the meaning of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 125, Electromedical Equipment.
1.5
This Standard does not apply to industrial process equipment , control, and instrumentation.
1.6
This Standard does not include requirements for X-ray equipment or similar equipment intended to emit alpha, beta, or gamma radiation.
Note: Requirements applicable to equipment using ionizing radiation for its intended purpose are given in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 114, Radiation-Emitting Equipment.
