1.1 Scope
1.1.1 This standard applies to newly produced vented gas-fired space heating appliances (see PartXIV, Definitions), hereinafter referred to as appliance(s), constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials, and having input ratings up to and including 400,000 Btu per hour. These appliances are:
a. For use with natural gas;
b. For use with manufactured gas;
c. For use with mixed gas;
d. For use with liquefied petroleum gases
(propane) (also se2.2-e); and
e. For use with LP gas-air mixtures.
The construction of vented gas-fired space heating appliances for use with the abovementioned gases is covered under Part I. The performance of vented gas-fired space heating appliances for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Part II.
1.1.2 This standard applies only to the following appliance types, as defined in Part XIV,Definitions: a. Gravity vented wall furnace;
b. Fan type vented wall furnace;
c. Fan type vented wall furnace with cooling unit;
d. Vented room heater;
e. Gravity direct vent wall furnace;
f. Fan-type direct vent wall furnace; and
g. Floor furnace.
1.1.3 An appliance having a decorative flame which simulates a solid fuel fire, such as coal or wood, must also comply with the applicable construction provisions of the American National Standard/Canadian Standards Association Standard for Vented Gas Fireplaces, ANSI Z21.50 . CSA 2.22. [See sections 1.2.17 (General Instruction and Assembly), 1.2.18, 1.2.19,1.4 (Evaluation of Combustion/Venting Side Sealing Materials), 1.5,(Glass Fronts), 1.21.7(Vent/Air Intake Pipes), 1.21.8, 1.28.2-g (Instructions), 1.28.3, 1.28.4 and 1.29.2-o(Markings).
1.1.4 This standard covers the thermal efficiency and related markings of only those appliances whose efficiencies are not regulated in the U.S.A. by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975 and the National Energy Conservation Policy Act of 1978* or covered in Canada by Exhibit B, Items Unique to Canada.
1.1.5 If a value for measurement as given in this standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated value is to be regarded as the specification.
1.1.6 All references to psi throughout this standard are to be considered gage pressures unless otherwise specified.
1.1.7 All vented gas-fired space heating appliances shall conform with the applicable requirements under Part I and Part II. In addition, for requirements specific to product type also see: a. Vented Room Heaters – Construction, Part III Vented Room Heaters – Performance, Part IV; b. Direct Vent Wall Furnaces – Construction, Part V Direct Vent Wall Furnaces – Performance, Part VI; c. Floor Furnaces – Construction, Part IX Floor Furnaces – Performance, Part X.
1.1.8 Exhibit A, Items Unique to the United States, contains provisions that are unique to the United States.
1.1.9 Exhibit B, Items Unique to Canada, contains provisions that are unique to Canada.
1.1.10 Special construction provisions applicable to vented space heating appliances designed for use with an optional design-certified conversion kit are outlined under Exhibit J, (Optional) Provisions for Listed Gas Appliance Conversion Kits.
