1.1 These requirements apply to household, commercial, and professional-use carts, stands, shelves and similar structures intended to support radio, television, and video equipment, information technology equipment, kitchen appliances, and similar loads.
1.2 These requirements do not apply to office furnishings.
1.3 These requirements do not apply to carts and similar structures having a shelf that is more than 39.37 inches (1 m) above the floor and are intended for use in schools, institutions, hospitals, or like locations where children are able to move them.
1.4 These requirements do not apply to a cart or stand provided with a specific product. Such combinations are to comply with the applicable requirements of the product Standard.
1.5 These requirements do not apply to any electrical circuitry integral to or provided with a cart or stand. The requirements of the standard covering the intended electrical product to be used with a cart or stand shall be applicable to any electrical circuits in the cart or stand. Electrical devices shall comply with the requirements for such devices. For example, attachment plugs and receptacles shall comply with the requirements in the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498. Where the requirements of more than one standard are applicable, the most severe requirements shall apply.
1.6 The phrase “cart or stand”, where used in this Standard, generically references any product considered under the scope of these requirements such as carts, stands, shelves, and similar structures.
