These requirements cover oil-fired storage-tank water-heating appliances having a fuel input of not more than 200,000 Btu per hour (60 kW). These requirements do not apply to heaters that include storage vessels having a water capacity of more than 120 gallons (454.2 liters), or that are intended for heating water to a temperature of more than 200EF (93.3EC).
Requirements for the installation and use of oil-burning equipment are included in the Standard for the Installation of Oil Burning Equipment, ANSI/NFPA 31 and the BOCA Basic/National Mechanical Code.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
