This standard presents metallic material requirements for resistance to sulfide stress cracking (SSC) for petroleum production, drilling, gathering and flowline equipment, and field processing facilities to be used in hydrogen sulfide (H2S)-bearing hydrocarbon service. The standard is applicable to all components of equipment exposed to sour environments where failure by SSC would prevent the equipment from being restored to an operating condition while continuing to contain pressure; compromise the integrity of the pressure-containment system; and/or prevent the basic function of the equipment from occurring. Sections of the standard address ferrous metals, nonferrous metals; fabrication; bolting; platings and coatings; special components; valves and chokes; wells, flowlines, gathering lines, facilities, and field processing plants; and drilling and well-servicing equipment. This standard is continually updated through a consensus balloting process; a new edition is issued each January.
