1.1
This Standard provides methods for evaluating the force, deflection, and energy-absorption characteristics of rollover protective structures (ROPS) under static loading. This Standard applies to the testing of ROPS on industrial tractors, motor graders, prime movers, skidders, tracked dozers, tracked loade rs, wheeled dozers, wheeled loaders, backhoe loaders, rigid-frame dumpers, compactors, and rollers with a machine mass greater than 700 kg. Note: General purpose industrial tractors may be evaluated according to the requirements of either this Standard or CSA Standard B352.1.
1.2
ROPS meeting the requirements of International Standard ISO 3471/1 or SAE Standard J1040 APR 88 also meet the requirements of t his Standard, provided the general requirements as specified in Clause 4 of CSA Standard B352.0 are also met.
1.3
Although some machines, because of design or use, are not prone to longitudinal upset, machine shape and location of the centre of gravity may cause skewing relative to a slope during lateral rollover. Machine forward velocity at the time of lateral rollover may also impose a longitudinal load. Other machines, by their nature, are subject to longitudinal upset.
This Standard therefore sets longitudinal-force criteria for testing ROPS on all machines.
