1.1This specification2 covers electric-resistance-welded low-carbon steel pipe intended for use as process lines.
1.2Pipe ordered under this specification shall be suitable for severe forming operations involving flanging in all sizes and bending to close radii up to and including NPS 4.
1.3This specification covers NPS 1/2through 10, plus additional sizes. The corresponding outside diameters and wall thicknesses for NPS 1/2through 10 are listed in Table 1, as are the dimensions for the additional sizes.
Note 1:The dimensionless designator NPS (nominal pipe size) has been substituted in this standard for such traditional terms as “nominal diameter,” “size,” and “nominal size.”
1.4The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
1.5The following precautionary caveat pertains only to the test method portion, Sections 6, 12, and 13, of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.6This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
